Over the last few years declining sales figures on camera and imaging products have been reported within the industry. Many have blamed the rise of the smartphone for the dimmed light of the digital compact camera. Although the iPhone can be used for numerous purposes, taking high-quality photos is one of its most used and highly advertised features. But what happens when we delete our precious photos by mistake? First of all, don’t panic. There are a few ways that could help you recover deleted photos from your iPhone.
A Few Easy Steps
Recovering permanently deleted photos from an iPhone can be a little tricky, but not impossible. Having an up to date iTunes backup will help you retrieve all of your photos, even in cases when your phone gets damaged, lost or stolen. In this article, you will find out just how easy it is to recover your deleted iPhone photos, in a few easy steps.
Recover from Recently Deleted folder
The first thing that you need to do to recover deleted photos is to check if they are still stored on your iPhone. Apple added a feature specifically designed for this situation in the photo app called “Recently Deleted”. All deleted photos are stored here for 30 days. If you don’t restore them to your Camera Roll over this period, the photos will be automatically and permanently deleted from this folder.
This method only works if you deleted the photos from your iPhone’s camera roll only. If you delete them from the “Recently Deleted” folder, there will be no other way to recover permanently deleted photos from your device, except from a backup.
You can find the location of this folder by going to your “Albums”, and then tap on the “Recently Deleted” album. Open it and search for the photos that you wish to recover. Select the images and hit “Recover”.

Recover using iTunes Backup Files
If recovering your photos from the Recently Deleted album failed, the other solution is to retrieve them from a backup file by using data recovery software. Enigma Recovery is a tool that completely fits your need of recovering permanently deleted photos from iPhones, iPads or iPods Touch. All you have to do is download it and follow the next steps. iTunes creates a backup file every time you sync your device, so make sure that you’re using a backup that was created before you deleted the photos.
Step 1 – Install Enigma Recovery
Install and open Enigma Recovery, simply hit download on the button above. Or if you are on a mobile or tablet device, sign up to receive a download link you can later use on your laptop or computer.
Step 2 – Recover from iTunes backup
On the left side of the menu, pick the “Recover from my iTunes backup” option.
Step 3 – Backup files
All of your available backup files will be shown, so pick the one that you wish to recover your deleted photos from. Check the “Date” column first, to make sure that you choose the right one.
Step 4 – Scanning
On the next step, you can choose what type of data to recover from the backup file. If you’re only looking for a way to recover permanently deleted photos from your iPhone, pick “Photos”. If you wish to retrieve all of the data, mark the “Select all” box. Now start the scan.
Step 5 – View photos
The scanning process may take a while, depending on how much data there is to scan. After the scan is complete you will be able to view retrieved data. You will need to unlock the full version of Enigma Recovery to see all the photos that have been recovered. You can now transfer them to your computer or laptop.
Step 6 – Export
Select what photos you want to transfer to your PC, then hit “Export” > “Export to desktop” > Select folder “Browse” > “Export”. The selected items will then be transferred to your computer.
