Method 2: How to transfer contacts from an iPhone to computer with iTunes

iTunes is a very useful option when you need to sync your iPhone data between your device and your computer. When you carry out an iTunes backup, all contact details are automatically included in the backup and are stored in the default location on your Mac or Windows computer. However, this type of backup is designed to be restored to your phone if needed, meaning that the default structure and layout of an iTunes backup can be very tricky to read on a computer screen without additional assistance from a 3rd-party tool. If you need to view or manage your contacts, it is helpful to use software like Enigma Recovery, once you have backed up to iTunes:

Step 1: Launch iTunes

Launch iTunes on your Windows or Mac computer – you may need to update to the latest version. Your device should be detected automatically

Step 2: Navigate to the iPhone screen

From within iTunes, select your iPhone from the devices section and click on the ‘Summary tab’. Scroll to the ‘Backups’ section

Step 3: Backup iPhone to iTunes

Under ‘Manually Backup and Restore’, click ‘Back Up Now’ – keep your phone connected whilst iTunes makes a backup of your device

Step 4: Install Enigma Recovery

Download and install Enigma Recovery software

Step 5: Select ‘Recover from my iTunes’

Launch the software and click on ‘Recover from my iTunes’

Step 6: Select your backup file

A list of your available backups from the default folder will be shown – to find a different backup file, click ‘Browse’. Once you’ve selected your file, click ‘Continue’, select ‘Contacts’ and ‘Start Scan’

Step 7: View Contacts

Once the software has completed the scan of your backup file, your contacts will be displayed to you in the software dashboard

Step 8: Export contacts to computer

Once you can see all of your contacts from your iPhone in the software dashboard, you can export it to your computer, via Excel or PDF

Method 3: How to transfer iPhone contacts to computer using iCloud

Using iCloud is another great way to copy the contacts from your iPhone to your computer. For this method to work, it is important that you sync your contacts to iCloud – this will mean that your contacts are switched on and can be accessed in your iCloud account. Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Go to Settings

On your iPhone, visit your Settings app

Step 2: Navigate to iCloud

Tap on your Name, and then tap on ‘iCloud’; if you are using iOS 10.2 or lower, simply tap on ‘iCloud’

Step 3: Ensure ‘Contacts’ is on

Check that ‘Contacts’ is turned on – if it is not, toggle it so that it is and then ensure that you have a backup with contacts included. Now that we’re certain that you’re syncing your contacts with iCloud, we can move back to desktop

Step 4: Launch iCloud.com on computer

On your Mac or Windows computer, visit ‘iCloud.com’ and log in using your Apple ID credentials

Step 5: Select ‘Contacts’

You will see a selection of features, depending on what you have selected to sync with iCloud – click on ‘Contacts’ to view your iPhone contacts in your browser

Step 6: Export Contacts

To export your contacts to your desktop, click on the gear icon in the bottom left of the screen and select ‘Export vCard’ – your contacts will be saved in VCF format

Method 4: How to transfer iPhone contacts to computer by Email

This final method may be time-consuming if you are trying to transfer or copy all of your iPhone contacts to your computer. However, if you only need to transfer a single contact or a few contacts, then this is a great way to do so. Follow this simple process:

Step 1: Open ‘Contact’s app

On your iPhone, tap on the contacts app

Step 2: Select a contact

Scroll to or search for the contact that you need to transfer to your computer and tap once on the contact name

Step 3: Tap ‘Share Contact’

Tap on ‘Share Contact’ – a number of different sharing options will pop up from the bottom of your screen

Step 4: Tap ‘Mail’

Choose to share the contact by email, by tapping on ‘Mail’ – this will open a new draft email from your default account on your iPhone

Step 5: Enter your email address

You should now see the VCF attachment with your contact’s details in the body of the email; in the ‘To’ field, enter your email address and tap ‘Send’

Step 6: Log in to your email on desktop

Next, you need to get your Mac or Windows computer and log in to the email account that you sent the contact details to

Step 7: Download Contact info from email

Once logged in, find the email that you sent to yourself and download the VCF attachment to your computer

That’s the end of our tutorials on transferring iPhone contacts to your Mac or Windows computer; we hope you’ve managed to complete one of these tutorials. Remember, Enigma Recovery can also be used to transfer other types of data from your iPhone to your computer, including SMS Text Messages.
