Camera and flash
First of all let’s talk about the camera. The front camera with 5mp and F2.2 combined with the rear one of 16pm and F1.8 allows you to take crystal clear photos you can instantly send via email, WhatsApp or SMS to your clients and friends.
The powerful camera combined with a Dual LED Flash provides you with all the light you need to take photos and videos in dark places. The torch feature will turn on the flash light without the camera, assisting your vision in dark environments. As it uses LED technology you won’t have to worry about the light bulb blowing.
The phone’s robust screen withstands drops of up to 1.5 metres and water submersion for 30 minutes under the water. The most interesting features of this screen are, firstly, its dust resistance: it has an IP68 rating, making it very convenient if you are a carpenter or potter for example, as you are exposed to high levels of dust that could sometimes damage your smartphone. Secondly, the screen has a Glove Touch mode that increases the screen’s touch sensitivity, meaning that workers who wear gloves don’t need to take them off to operate the phone.
Compatibility & integrations
Galaxy XCover 5 is compatible with the main Samsung wearables such as Samsung Galaxy Watch and Samsung Galaxy Buds.
You can synchronise with Microsoft Teams and apps like walkie talkie that set up with a dedicated button – the XCover key.
The XCover Key (or Hot Key) is a button on the left of the device, just under the volume control, and it’s a shortcut you can program with different options. You can enable a push-to-talk mode via apps such as Microsoft Teams, allowing you to communicate with your colleagues with a simple click of the button – or customise it with any of your frequently used apps, such as Settings, Google Chrome, Contacts, Phone; or even take a screenshot. Alternatively, you could use it to turn on the LED torchlight.
The Samsung Galaxy XCover 5 is available now in Asia, Europe and Latin America.. You can buy it here in the UK for £329. It will be rolled out over the coming weeks to other regions.
