Moving old messages to a new phone
After purchasing a new iPhone from a retail seller. Pretty much everyone goes through the process of transferring data from the old iPhone to the new iPhone. This is done through restoring from a backup created in iCloud or iTunes. You create a backup in iTunes or iCloud with the old iPhone and restore this backup on the new iPhone. The old switcheroo.
Four ways to retrieve messages
As mentioned there are four ways of retrieving old messages from your iPhone. All are listed below in further detail:
Option 1 – Siri search
Retrieve old messages through Siri search:
- Unlock your phone
- Swipe downwards from the middle of the home screen
- Type within the text field a recognisable phase or name from the message(s) you are trying to find.
- Look through the search results to see if the messages you are looking for are there.

Siri search, formerly named ‘Spotlight search’, is an iPhone or iPad feature. It enables you to quickly search your phone or the internet for any query. The newly deemed ‘Siri search’ in iOS 11, accesses your emails and third-party apps also. If Siri and Search is not yet enabled on all your apps turn it on here: Settings > Siri & Search > Select app > Turn on Search & Siri Suggestions.
Try Siri search to find old messages. If the messages you are trying to locate are actually still on your phone, a Siri search could reveal them.

Backing up your data
A backup is a snapshot or copy of all your data at that time: music, messages, contacts, WhatsApp chat, calls, calendar items and more. iCloud can only backup so much, unless you have either of the 50GB 200GB 1 or 2TB paid options (gosh that’s heaps of space!). iTunes however is limited only by the space on your laptop/computer, and it’s free.
Restoring a new iPhone to that backup will effectively transfer your old data to your new iPhone. Nine times out of ten, the process goes smoothly and everything is copied over. Other times people lose items in the process, in which case completing option 2 or 3 below will help you.

Hi Junior,
Thanks for commenting! Unfortunately, you will need a computer or laptop to complete any tutorial that will allow you to recover deleted text messages from your iPhone.
Sarah
My iCloud account is locked which means that my iPhone has not been backed up in iTunes or iCloude since it has been locked. Can I still be able to retreive data from my iPhone (like phone calls and iMessages) that have been deleted?
Hi Shirley,
Yes you can still retrieve data from your iPhone or an iTunes backup file with our software, all you will need is the passcode to unlock your phone.
However you will have to reset your Apple ID password to retrieve data form your iCloud backup 🙂
Thanks for commenting, hope that helped!
If I deleted messages, tried to restore the phone to get them back but got data from the last time it was backed up can I use this tool to retrieve the current messages I deleted?
Hi Sam,
Restoring your iPhone will effectively wipe the device of all it’s history, replacing it with the contents of the backup. After this, the software cannot recover deleted messages prior to the restore.
Thanks for commenting!
I got a new phone last week. Can I still access messages deleted from my old phone?
Hi Sarah,
Thanks for commenting. Yes you can, try option 3 above.
Hope that helps!
I need my old text massage to my new phone
Can I go all the way to the top of my messages like from march 4 for example
Hi Brandi,
It’s hard to tell how much of your data will still remain in your iPhone and how much will have been re-written. The data is not re-written in any particular pattern. the best thing to do is download the free trial and scan your iPhone with it to see how much data can be re-written.
Also, if you have made a backup of your phone in iTunes or iCloud before, you may be able to find your data by scanning your backup too. Give it a try!
Hi. I need to access my old text messages. I have upgraded phones and no longer have my old phone with the messages, this was recycled & factory reset.
Backups were automatic when attached to wifi.
Will Enigma Recovery be able to retrieve these messages?
Many thanks
Hello,
So I downloaded the application to my laptop to attempt to pull some old messages out of thin air through iCloud backups, except the app is not allowing me to sign into my iCloud account and keeps telling me that my information is incorrect even though I just used it to log into the iCloud website…
