Find out how to recover deleted videos from your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. These two methods can also help you retrieve videos that have been lost for other reasons. Whether it’s baby’s first footsteps or fun times with friends, we’re here to help you get those precious memories back.
Method 1: Recover videos from the ‘Recently Deleted’ album
When you delete a video from an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch using iOS 8 or higher, it is sent to the ‘Recently Deleted’ album in the Photos app. It remains here for 30 days unless it is manually deleted in the meantime. Recovering from this album is quick, easy, free and does not require a backup, so we would recommend trying this first — you could have your videos back in no time!
To find deleted videos without a backup, follow this process:
Tap on the Photos app on your iPhone then select ‘Albums’ > ‘Recently Deleted’ (if you’re using iOS 12, this will be in the section labelled ‘Other Albums’).
In the ‘Recently Deleted’ album, preview the videos displayed, checking to see if the videos you need are still available. If your video has been manually or automatically deleted from this album, you can try to recover videos from an iTunes backup instead.
Tap ‘Select’ > Select the videos that you want to recover > Tap ‘Recover’.
Your videos will be restored back to your main album.
If you would like to extract videos from your ‘Recently Deleted’ album and transfer them to your computer, perhaps to back up or share, you can use our software to do so:
Download Enigma Recovery software
Download our recovery software by clicking on any download button on this website. Install and launch the program on your Mac or PC.
Connect iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to computer
Use a USB cable to connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to the computer. You may need to enable the ‘Trust’ option that pops up on your device to proceed.
From the data type item menu, choose to scan for videos and start the scan. The scan time will depend upon how much data you have on your phone.
View and save videos
Once the scan has finished, you will be able to view thumbnails from the videos extracted by the software. If you are using the full unlocked version of Enigma Recovery, you will be able to save and watch your videos. To save videos to your computer or laptop, use the export option: ‘Export & Restore’ > ‘Export to desktop’ > Select location ‘Browse’ > ‘Export’. Easy!
Method 2: Recover videos from an iTunes backup
If you weren’t lucky enough to find the missing videos in your Recently Deleted folder, there is another option. When you back up your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to iTunes, your videos will automatically be included. You can then restore the iTunes backup file to your device. However, it’s important to note that this will overwrite all existing data on your iPhone, so you may lose more recent data and settings.
Alternatively, you can use our iOS data recovery software to extract videos from an iTunes backup, including video attachments from WhatsApp, text messages and iMessages. You can then export them to your computer and transfer them back to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, without the need for a factory reset. This eliminates the risk of overwriting anything important.
Download Enigma Recovery software
Grab your laptop or computer and download Enigma Recovery from this website. The free trial will allow you to view the thumbnails of your retrieved videos.
Select ‘Recover from my iTunes’ option
Open the software and select the option ‘Recover from my iTunes’. This will allow you to extract files from your iTunes backup.
Select backup file
The software will display all backup files. Select the one you would like to extract data from, using the date created to help you decide.
Scan for videos
Select ‘Videos’ as the data type and start the scan. Once the scan is complete, you can preview the recovered files in the video tab.
If you have the full version of Enigma Recovery, you can save all retrieved videos in the location of your choice by using the export option: ‘Export & Restore’ > ‘Export to desktop’ > Select location in ‘Browse’ > ‘Export’. This is great if you want to back up or share your videos, or simply have the option to view them on your computer.
Restore videos to your iOS device
The easiest way to get the exported videos back on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is to transfer them from your computer to iCloud Drive. You’ll then have all your videos back where they should be!
After restoring your deleted videos, get into the habit of regularly backing up your device to reduce the risk of data loss in the future. The full version of Enigma Recovery can help you to manage various types of iOS data.
