How iCloud Works
Using iCloud is a very smart decision as it can save very important text and iMessage files. This backup solution is usually turned on by default on iPhones, iPads and iPods Touch, so if you didn’t turn it off intentionally, you don’t have to worry about the safety of your data. Every time your device is connected to a power source, while the screen is locked and the Wi-Fi is on, the device creates a new backup file on iCloud. The data is then saved on Apple servers.
iCloud backup files contain copies of your device and what data you have on your iPhone at that exact moment. This means that it also contains your text messages. But considering that the main purpose of iCloud is to restore, and not for storage, Apple doesn’t give users the possibility to only extract text messages from iCloud.
Restoring Text Messages from iCloud
If you wish to extract text messages from iCloud, you have the possibility to restore the backup on your device, but keep in mind that all of the data from your iPhone will be replaced by the data contained in the backup file. Meaning that you will recover the text messages, but you might end up losing other important files.
But why restore all of the data when you only want to extract text messages from iCloud? Apple doesn’t allow iPhone users to extract only text messages from backup files, to restore them to the device or to save them on a computer. But fortunately, this issue can be effectively resolved by a third-party software, such as Enigma Recovery.
