Contacts are one of the most important types of data that we keep on our iPhones. What’s the point of having an iPhone if you can’t communicate with anyone, right? So keeping them safe should be on everyone’s priority list. If your iPhone gets stolen or broken beyond repair, having a recent backup file will definitely save you. That’s why it’s vital to regularly backup your iPhone contacts. It will save you from a lot of stress.

Most people have hundreds of contacts saved to their phone. It’s worth taking a few minutes of your time to consider your backups options. It’s pretty easy to re-install all of your apps on a new iPhone but you may never recover all of your contacts if your iTunes backups are not up to date.

iTunes will create automatically these backup files if you didn’t change the default settings. So here are the steps that you need to go through for creating a backup of your iPhone contacts with iTunes. Keep in mind that the backed up contacts can’t be accessed or restored selectively.

What you need in order to backup your iPhone Contacts to iTunes:

  • Your iPhone and computer
  • iTunes installed on your PC
  • A USB cable

Backup iPhone Contacts to iTunes

Step one

Install iTunes on your computer, and open the app.

Step two

Connect your iPhone to the computer/laptop. The device will be automatically recognized by iTunes.

Step three

Click on the device on the left menu and then select “Info”.

Step four

“Sync Contacts” should be checked. If it’s not, turn the setting on.

Step five

By right-clicking on the device’s name from the left-side menu, you’ll be able to see the “Back Up” button.

By simply backing up your iPhone to iTunes, the app will create a backup file for almost all of the data contained by your phone. You won’t be able to access your contacts unless you restore them back to your device. This means that all of the existing files on your phone will be replaced by those found in the backup file.

In conclusion, all you have to do for creating a backup of your iPhone Contacts to iTunes is to connect your device to a computer, check if “Sync Contacts” is on and then sync the phone with iTunes.

Hi, when I try to do this from my phone I switched from a couple weeks ago, it says “your contacts are being synced over the air from iCloud. Over-the-air settings can be changed on your iPhone.”

I have them turned off on all my stuff as the reason I’m doing this is because my wife just deleted everything off her phone and deleted my contacts with it. I am trying to recover them all from my old phone to itunes and transfer them over that way.
    Now what?
